Suzumushi is the Japanese name of a cricket, known in English as the bell cricket, known particularly for its song. It is frequently referred to in Japanese literature, particularly in chapter 38 of the Tale of Genji, in a short story, "The grasshopper and the bell cricket" by Yasunari Kawabata, and in haiku as an autumn kigo.
