With a championship-winning heritage, Suzuki off-road bikes offer an incredible combination of torquey engine performance and lightweight handling. Best of all, there's a wide variety of models available, sized for most everyone in the family.
At the head of the lineup is the incredible DR-Z400E. This is the bike that routinely leaves the competition breathing nothing but dust. It cranks out a load of torque across a wide powerband with high-rpm muscle to spare. The DR-Z400S looks like an off-road machine, and it is - with all the unmatched performance capabilities you'd expect from a Suzuki. But look a little more carefully and you'll see you get a bonus: it's 100-percent street legal.
The DR-Z400's exceptional off-road performance should come as no surprise. After all, it uses the same advanced suspension as the renowned DR-Z400E. It also has a lightweight, compact design that helps it offer crisp handling everywhere from tight, technical trails to wide-open fire roads.
Off-road or on the street, the DR-Z400S provides strong torque across the powerband and amazing throttle response. And it features remarkably smooth performance, complemented by conveniences such as electric starting and a compact, easy-to-read instrument cluster.
On the trail or cross town, you can't beat the 2006 Suzuki DR-Z 400 S.

[edit] Exhaust System
It is commonly know that the head pipe of the stock S/SM exhaust system is very restrictive. After market exhausts are common place for this motorcycle with manufacturers from CRD to Yoshimura making slip on and full exhaust systems. After countless discussions and dynomometer (dyno) runs it has shown that Yoshimura make the exhaust with most power gains. The Yoshimura Titanium Tri-oval TRS system. designed for the DRZ400E, but easily mountable on the S/SM this exhaust has been proven to hold its own when the engine is taken into its bigger bores.

[edit] Engine
Automatic Cam Chain Tensioner (ACCT) applies constant pressure on the cam chain thus causing it to stretch. Use of Manual Cam Chain Tensioner is strongly recommended.
[edit] Electrical
According to Yuasa website "due to a constant current drain on vehicle [DRZ], this battery [YT7B-BS] should be maintained on an automatic charger whenever vehicle is not in use"[1]
