[edit] Summary

Sutter's Mill, a sawmill owned by 19th century pioneer John Sutter, located in Coloma, California at the bank of the American River. It was here that the carpenter James Marshall, while working on the construction of the mill, found several nuggets of gold in January 1848 that would trigger the gold rush.
