Wikipedia talk:Suspected sock puppets/Rafaelsfingers

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

For what it's worth, Rafaelsfingers came on IRC last night asking for an unblock review and claiming innocence... and his behavior seemed consistent with that of Giovanni33 by all present; his IP also geolocated to the Bay Area. I'd say the WP:DUCK is quacking here. krimpet 14:10, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Thank you Krimpet. This was a difficult call, and I welcome additional review and comments, especially any sort of evidence that would refute the finding of sock puppetry. Jehochman Talk 16:32, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
Actually as #wikipedia-en-unblock is one of the few Wikimedia channels where we explicitly allow republishing of logs, I can post the entire conversation here, if it is of use. krimpet 18:04, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Apr 16 01:22:13 <Krimpet> gomez_: ok, I'll take a look into this
Apr 16 01:22:57 <Krimpet> do you have any other accounts at all?
Apr 16 01:23:25 <gomez_> i appreciate it, Krimpet. like i said, i don't even know who supergreenred is. it seems the person who blocked me
was also editing the article as well
Apr 16 01:23:48 <gomez_> absolutely not. i access wikipedia from my cell and home only.
Apr 16 01:25:06 <Krimpet> from what I can see, the concerns seem to be that you initially started editing on a controversial article
Apr 16 01:25:12 <gomez_> and possibly had some interest in blocking me for my political views, which is wrong. once this supergreenred person
was pointed out, i noticed his contributions, and, in all honesty, they are completely different than mine.
Apr 16 01:25:54 <Krimpet> "Giovanni33" seems to be the suspected sockpuppeteer
Apr 16 01:26:12 <gomez_> yes, as most interests in life proceed, it began as a passion about this particular subject, i only noticed my
blocking when i wanted to contribute a citation to a completely different subject,
Apr 16 01:26:49 <gomez_> excuse my ignorance, but wouldn't a sockpuppet share a same ip address?
Apr 16 01:28:07 <Krimpet> not necessarily. it's complicated :/
Apr 16 01:29:22 <gomez_> it seems rather obvious that the person who initially blocked me, Chris, was edit warring while he blocked me. i can
assure you, Giovanni33 and I are two seperate individuals.
Apr 16 01:30:28 <Krimpet> who is Chris?
Apr 16 01:30:29 <gomez_> i followed the advice of previous admins who unblocked me
Apr 16 01:32:13 <gomez_> i don't know, the person who blocked me was also adamentally editing also
Apr 16 01:32:16 <gomez_> on the same article
Apr 16 01:32:22 <gomez_> i thought his name was chris
Apr 16 01:33:17 <gomez_> perhaps i have him mixed up with someone else.
Apr 16 01:33:47 <gomez_> Having reviewed your contributions, I conclude that this is a disruptive single-purpose account, and almost certainly
a sockpuppet being used in a manner outside the permitted bounds for alternate accounts. I am sure you ahve another
account, if it is not blocked then please feel free to contribute using that account. Edit-warring, though, will
continue to be unwelcome. Guy (Help!) 20:07, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
Apr 16 01:35:25 <Krimpet> I think an additional concern is that you've edited other specific articles in common with these folks
Apr 16 01:36:08 <gomez_> really? which other articles?
Apr 16 01:36:19 <Krimpet> e.g. Guatemalan Civil War‎
Apr 16 01:36:49 * MrZ-man|lazin (i=MrZ-man@wikipedia/Mr.Z-man) has left #wikipedia-en-unblock
Apr 16 01:38:41 <gomez_> oh .. under the same topic. it's an unfair generalization that if 2 people share a common outlook that they are
conspiring together. i have an adamant perspective on history, perhaps by reading others i may have developed my own
                                views.
Apr 16 01:40:11 <gomez_> i dont know him

Apr 16 01:42:39 <Krimpet> appealing from your talk page is probably the best option at the moment :/
Apr 16 01:43:44 <gomez_> im not being disruptive, the person who speculated has no proof im the other person. oh well, seems unjust to me.

Apr 16 01:45:29 <Krimpet> gomez_: the thing is, your current IP does geolocate to the same area, and you started editing the same articles,
                                hence the suspicion. :/
Apr 16 01:48:02 <gomez_> california has a lot of like minded folks. it sets a bad presidence to say we are all sockpockets of the same
ideaology know just because we often vote democratic.
Apr 16 01:48:13 <gomez_> i thought wikipedia was founded a more diverse premise
Apr 16 01:48:24 <gomez_> er founded on a more diverse premise
Apr 16 01:51:17 <Krimpet> gomez_, I can suggest appealing on your talk, or by talking to the blocking admin, but I'd rather not undo the block
                                myself, sorry :(
Apr 16 01:53:20 <gomez_> what a sad night for wikipedia.
Apr 16 01:55:41 <reality> Krimpet: can you please give me voice on my usual nick?
