[edit] HMAS Brisbane picture
The image on the HMAS Brisbane page is the best one I could find that complied with the draconian copyright rules over images on here. If you can find a better one, that does comply with the rules, then I would be delighted to have that on there instead. Hammersfan 13.52 GMT, 23 January 2006.
[edit] The Ritz
Thanks for your note. The amusing thing (well, it amuses me, anyway) is that I don't normally edit Ritz Hotel. A spammer had added commercial links to some of the articles on Las Vegas casinos that I watch. Vegaswikian got most of them. I got the rest and checked the spammer's contributions to see what else he'd been up to. That's how I came to look at the Ritz article. Thus, the ultimate effect of his spamming was to correct your oversight about the image. Wikimagic at work! JamesMLane 19:02, 26 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Image:AWMEternalFlame.jpg
Thanks for the comment on Image:AWMEternalFlame.jpg! I do not know how to adjust the tilt but if you know how to feel free and do it. --robz0r 04:54, 5 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Punting pictures
Many thanks for adding your picture of punting in Christchurch NZ. Do you have any more information about punting there? Preferably with some verifiable references. I'd like to see the "punting round the world" section expanded a little. Thruston 15:50, 6 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Fixed widths for images
Now that WP users can set a preference for the size of thumbnails, I think that there is no good reason to put fixed widths on thumbnail images, so I'm taking them off again. Please object on the talk page for Punt (boat) if you disagree. Thruston 15:54, 6 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] IIII vs IV
IIII is nonstandard and confusing (I mistook it for III), and even our own article on the tank refers to it as the Mark IV. What's the advantage to using IIII? Night Gyr 20:22, 19 April 2006 (UTC)
- Clockfaces are an exception, see Roman_Numerals#IIII_or_IV.3F. Night Gyr 21:48, 21 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Port Arthur
Eek, I don't know what happened there. Would you be able to replace the old theories section without eliminating the rest of my de-crappification? Rebecca 08:06, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
- I've done the same. I'll keep an eye out for any more of the same on my watch. Rebecca 07:34, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Posting links
Hi, please don't post links to any website that give personal information about another Wikipedian, whether that Wikipedian has left or not. The page you recreated has now been deleted a second time. Thanks. AnnH ♫ 23:21, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Blocked
I'm apparently blocked as a sockpuppet of Blissyu2. Could somebody check my edits on Port Arthur massacre where I've been discussing POV pushing by an anon user identified as Blissyu2? --Surgeonsmate 23:44, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
- I have seen your request, but I don't know enought about the background to make a decision. Undoing another admin's block without discussion is strongly discouraged, as the blocking admin often has information that the uninvolved admin doesn't have. I will, however, make sure that the admin who blocks you is aware that you are contesting the block, just in case it's a case of mistaken identity. If you are unconneccted to Blissyu2, you have nothing to worry about, except the inconvenience of not being able to edit for a day. You can continue to post messages on this page, though. Hope that helps. AnnH ♫ 15:32, 26 May 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks Ann! I think it is a bit high-handed to impose an indefinite block without checking the facts. I'm not Blissyu2/Internodeuser. I've been reverting the edits of that person and trying to get them to follow wikirules. Here's the edit counts for:
- A checkuser request would also show there's no similarity. A look at user contributions shows completely different patterns. Internodeuser looks to have been an AfD warrior whereas I have hopefully been a productive participant with contributions that are overwhelminly in articlespace.
- On investigating the circumstances further, I am quite angry that Katefan0 has left the project as a result of her name being exposed. Looking back on her edits she seems to have been a diligent and productive admin and contributor, an asset to Wikipedia. I am sorry that I poked my nose in, but it seemed to me that I could help explain why she had left. Now I see that this only added to the trouble and made more work for you. Sorry. --Surgeonsmate 19:44, 26 May 2006 (UTC)
- I have unblocked you, and I apologize for my over-hasty reaction. ➥the Epopt 22:26, 26 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] License tagging for Image:Natasha Stott Despoja Crop.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Natasha Stott Despoja Crop.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 06:05, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Photos
I've put your photo of the Ritz in the Dover Street article and wonder if there are any more available of the locality, particularly Dover Street and Albemarle Street. Tyrenius 07:24, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Replaceable fair use Image:JennyKendallTobiasComic.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:JennyKendallTobiasComic.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
- On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use media which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. High on a tree (talk) 22:06, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:JennyKendallTobiasBusted.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:JennyKendallTobiasBusted.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 18:21, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
