[edit] vs. BDSM

One assumes that the inclusion of this article in the BDSM category is an attempt at humor... and a pretty successful one at that. I'm not going to fix it, but if you want to, dear reader, consider this a heads-up. -- Jmabel 23:18, Jul 5, 2004 (UTC)

Sadly, I think it is simply the result of an overly-literal reading of submissive. But far be it from me to spoil even an inadvertant joke... - Nunh-huh 23:21, 5 Jul 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Submission vs. "relinquish inappropriate control"

Interesting recent edit. Without comment, an anon changed:

It suggests that women should be submissive in their private lives to their husbands or boyfriends, in order to bring romance back to their relationship.

...to...

It suggests that women should relinquish inappropriate control of their husbands and focus on their own happiness in order to bring romance back to their relationship.

This is interesting because they are two different slightly POV takes on the same facts. I don't think either is more appropriate than the other, so I am not reverting, but both views should be represented in the article with appropriate citations from people who would characterize the matter each way. -- Jmabel 05:48, Aug 2, 2004 (UTC)

My understanding (not knowing much about this thing, though) is that the proponents themselves avoid the term "submissive" because it has negative connotations, and can also be confused with the S&M meaning of the term. Opponents do use the term, though. --Delirium 01:07, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Tongue-in-cheek

"Someone" should write "The Surrendered Computer" (machine readable versions). Some of them (and not just science fiction versions) could be improved with such a tome. (Only slightly tongue-in-cheek.) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.85.6.26 (talkcontribs) 26 Sept 2005

[edit] The Surrendered Single merge

I propose that The Surrendered Single be merged into this article. The Surrendered Wife book is certainly more notable due to the controversy it caused, and The Surrendered Single seems notable mainly due to its connection to the first book. The Surrendered Single could easily be merged in as a new section, as it appears to be the exact same philosophy as the original book, just modified and repackaged to apply to singles. It also seems unlikely that The Surrendered Single can grow beyond the stub it is now. --Icarus (Hi!) 02:17, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

Sounds good to me. The article could also probably do with more references; there's a bit of academic discussion out there that could be cited. --Delirium 01:09, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
