It spent fourteen weeks in the top ten and forty six weeks on the Billboard 200, less than half the amount of time that Destiny's Child's previous album, The Writing's on the Wall (1999), spent on the chart.

Survivor debuted at number one in most of the countries it charted on including: the United Kingdom, Canada, Ireland, the Netherlands, Germany, Norway, Austria, Belgium and Switzerland. It landed in the top ten in Poland, Sweden, Japan, France, Italy and Finland. Worldwide, the album sold five million copies in its first five weeks, and though in the U.S. it didn't perform as well as The Writing's on the Wall, worldwide it matched the success of the previous album and even surpassed it in some countries. In Europe the album was certified two times platinum in recognition of two million albums sold across the continent.
