Surrounded is a song by progressive metal band Dream Theater. It is the fourth track on their second album Images and Words. It is also featured on the European edition of Live at the Marquee CD and the Images and Words: Live in Tokyo VHS and DVD. Lyrics are written by Kevin Moore.
The song is predominately in 9/8 time.
[edit] Live Version
During the Chaos In Motion Tour, Surrounded has been lengthened with an improvisational jam section. This lengthened version is usually around 8 minutes long, featuring quotations of "Mother" by Pink Floyd and "Sugar Mice" by Marillion.
[edit] Information
A very spiritually themed song, Surrounded was often dedicated to Arthur Ashe (the first major African-American tennis player) who died tragically of AIDS, and therefore may bear some relation to "Learning to Live".
