In some historical texts, Mahuy Suri is said to have been appointed king of Khorasan by Caliph Hazrat Ali after having murdered the Iranian Sassanian king Yazdegerd III.[citation needed] According to the historian in Shahnameh Lord of Khorasan, Mahuy Suri asked one of his millers to kill Yazdgerd III, the last Persian king, after his defeat in Iraq.[clarify]
Another Suri king, Banji Baharan, was appointed by Khalifah Harun al-Rashid as the king of Ghor after he signed a peace treaty.
Subsequently, after their arrival in Afghanistan, Islamic rulers ended an era of peaceful policies and began a struggle against Pashtunwali, Pashtun nationalism and Afghan nationalism. The Pashtun kingdoms were crushed during this Islamic expansion.[clarify]

The Suri Kukhran clan originates from the Pashtun belt of Afghanistan and is also found in Punjab. The Kukhrans are said to be an ancient (Warrior) clan around the Indus civilisation who are predominantly Muslims Khawaja Shaikh and were Hindus and Buddhists before conversion to Islam.
According to historians, the Bactrians and Aryans were the ancestors of the Pashtuns, they had settled in the areas of Balkh, Herat, Kabul, and Kandahar. They gave it the name of Ariana. In the hymns of Rig Veda, there was a clear-cut indication of Sindho (Indus), Kubha (Kabul), Kurrma (Kurram), Gumati (Gumal), Suvastu (Swat) and other rivers of the area. According to Bakhtar Shah Zafar, philologists generally agree that Pashto is a derivative of the Indo-Aryan group of languages. Abdul Hye Habibi, the most eminent scholar, has given a list of Pashto words, which resemble the other house of Indo-Iranian sub-families of languages ie Dari, Hindko, Sanskrit, Urdu, Siraiki, Hindi, Tajik, Sindhi, Kashmiri, Kurdish and Prakrit.
The Suri clan originates from the Pashtun belt of Afghanistan and Pakistan and have migrated and settled in Punjab province where Pashtun communities exist today.
The most famous Suri in the history was The Afghan Emperor Sher Shah Suri.
