Surf FM is a local low power FM radio station in the southern suburb of Frankston, Melbourne (Australia).
Surf FM was established to provide a neighborhood radio service to the Frankston area, and is based in the city centre.
Previously launched as a youth oriented station, and later featuring a format of dance music, the station has more recently been undertaking studies and local surveys in its broadcast area to assist in the devbelopment and launch of a new format and station sound. The radio station has in recent times presented a number of formats and has on occasions presented program material from other similar radio stations.
Technically, Surf FM has been undergoing a number of propagation tests and is set to resume transmissions under the Surf FM brand in October / November 2007.
Surf FM is a single station (independent, non network) broadcaster, and is soon to provide opportunities for people within the locality to participate in station programming.
Surf FM coverage is approximately a 3km radius from the Frankston transmitter site, and is licenced as a Low Powered Open Narrowcast service by the Australian Communications and Media Authority.
