As of the 2001 India census[2], Suratgarh had a population of 58,076. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Suratgarh has an average literacy rate of 63%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 70%, and female literacy is 54%. In Suratgarh, 15% of the population is under 6 years of age.

It has a thermal power plant of 1250 MW and a PLF of 93%, which has won an award for one of the best operated plants in India.[citation needed]
