[edit] Edits regarding Great Valley High School

Hello, Superbowlbound. When making edits to an article, especially with criticism such as yours, a reliable source is needed. If you can find a reliable source that backs up the information your saying, please feel free to take away the citation needed tag. Hello32020 02:48, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

Umm, its been in our school newspaper. Its not online. You know not all sources that are realiable are also virtual.
To be reliable, it also has to be accessible over time. This doesn't necessarily mean online, but in all probability your school doesn't keep excellent archives of school newspapers. You would at least have to cite the name of the paper, edition, etc. --Auto(talk / contribs) 02:59, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
Actually, first see WP:RS, and second let me give you this standard: if I can contact your school and get a copy of this paper to read myself, then it's probably reliable enough. Part of the point is somebody else has to be able to check it. --Auto(talk / contribs) 03:05, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
[1] page 11 there are two things. Proved you wrong. And there is another article not on there. Any other questions, ask first.
If you're going to add that kind of criticism, you don't leave it unsourced, and you don't just point to a source and say "it's in there" without citing it properly yourself. Also, no single editor assumes authority on a subject to the point where they ask edits to go through them. It doesn't work like that. -- Shoejartalk/edits 03:55, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wikimedia Pennsylvania

Hello there!

I'm writing to inform you that we are now forming the first local Wikimedia Chapter in the United States: Wikimedia Pennsylvania. Our goals are to perform outreach and fundraising activities on behalf of the various Wikimedia projects. If you're interested in being a part of the chapter, or just want to know more, you can:

Thanks and I hope you join up! Cbrown1023 talk 04:35, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Language in articles

Hello,

Please observe the language used in articles before you edit them. Your 'corrections' to Thuggee were in fact in error, given that it is written in (Indian/British) English. — Yama 07:58, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Spelling

Please do not change spelling in articles from one variety of English to another without good reason. See WP:ENGVAR#National varieties of English Jooler 23:57, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] UK->US spelling

You've been asked before not to change between English variants in articles without good reason. Your recent change to Caesarean section did just that. It would be great if you could read the links that editors have left before me on this exact topic. Mark Chovain 03:41, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Vandalism

Of course, be bold and revert it. But if it's just one or two ips or such, warn them about the vandalism on their talk pages. If they continue, report them at WP:AIV. David Fuchs (talk) 12:26, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Pittsburgh meetups

On Wikipedia:Meetup/DC 3 you ask about Pittsburgh meetups. It doesn't seem to be very active at the moment, but there is a Wikipedia:Meetup/Pittsburgh page, so that would be a good page to add to your watchlist, and/or write to. Kingdon (talk) 22:51, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Horseshoe Scout Reservation

Please stop adding cruft to Horseshoe Scout Reservation. The poor quality of most camp articles is what leads them to the fate of Camp Raymond (BSA). --evrik (talk) 23:13, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Xbox Live userbox

Hi, I recently made some modifications to User:Xenocidic/UBX/Xbox Live and when I attempted to modify your userbox to make it render correctly with the new format, the website the gamertag now links to says that the gamertag you listed does not exist. You may want to check out the userbox to see if your gamertag is spelled correctly. Cheers. Thingg 16:39, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] DC Meetup on May 17th

Your help is needed in planning Wikipedia:Meetup/DC 4! Any comments or suggestions you have are greatly appreciated. The Placebo Effect (talk) 19:38, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Pitt deletion

A Pitt related page, Oakland Zoo (cheering section), has been nominated for deletion. Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are important. Please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Oakland Zoo (cheering section) and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you.CrazyPaco (talk) 06:10, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] deletion discussions

Hey Superbowl, we're definitely on the same side here. But, I would like to gently tell you about these admins who are not going to pay much credence to the argument of "because Cameron Crazies exists too". You'll get WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS slapped on you pretty quickly. See this page Wikipedia:Arguments to avoid in deletion discussions. It's not wrong to bring up (because precedence is important even though wikipedia says it shouldn't be taken into account), but the article deletion discussion would be better served by at least also providing comments about the Oakland Zoo's notability (i.e. you could say it is continually discussed on national TV broadcasts) or simply refer back to points in other people's arguments (eg. per FrankAnchor). The other thing, the admins that make the decision will not appreciate being overly zealous by applying arguments all over the page to try to bring attention to your point, and they especially don't like seeing insults (though you and I are thinking the same thing). The good thing is, with the revisions to the Zoo page, I think we've made it obvious that it clearly passes a notability test. Anyway, thanks for helping keep the article and for your contributions to the Pitt-related pages!CrazyPaco (talk) 22:40, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

Hey, no big deal, your vote is very important. I am sure future Pitt articles will need your help as well so its important to figure out how to most effectively deal with these things. That WVU guy is right on with some stuff regarding AFD policy, but is showing clear bias (and admitted bias) in light of WP:LOCALFAME. But, he seems to be relenting at least as far as his Mountaineer pride will let him.CrazyPaco (talk) 03:00, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Schools

Hey Superbowlbound,

You are right, with the two buisness schools, it was still 17. I was confused by the number because both schools are listed under one business heading, so I though the number went up to 18, but the count of 17 was right originally. I actually wasn't counting Falk as one before.

While the Falk School is not a "School" of the university, it is a component of the School of Education, and falls under their administration. The Falk School is actually owned and operated by the university, and this is typical for universities with education schools to run their own laboratory school. It is not a "School" or "College" in a collegiate sense, but it is a school, so was not sure where to list it in the template. I had it with Schools because of lack of place to put it, but it probably belongs better under Miscellanea. BTW, thanks for your contributions. We are going to be starting a Pitt wikiproject soon so I hope you become a part of it! CrazyPaco (talk) 22:10, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Oh, one thing, a lot of these component school and colleges have come under AFD nominations recently (like the Graduate School of Public Health). This is happening all over the place with both with ours and other University schools. We really need to make sure these schools seem notable, not just list what they offer. It is inevitable that someone will come by and AFD tag it with Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not#Wikipedia is not a directory or try to have them merged back into the main Pitt article. Of course, I'm of the opinion all of these are notable, or at least the articles have the potential to be notable. Please keep working on them otherwise they're sort of sitting ducks. The "mid priority" pittsburgh project tags are great, as they will help dissuade an AFD, but won't work on everyone. Try to use something like the GSPH article as a model for avoiding the AFDs. Things that help make it seem notable are rankings (like USNews with ref tags), history (with ref tags), research and money (with refs) and any impact it had on a larger level nationally or internationally (look in archive searches of local newspapers, etc). The latter will be hardest to find, but they should be ok with the first two. Wikilinking them and adding them to categories (like Category:Business schools in the United States) will help protect them too. University Times is great for some of the more current news/rankings and the digital archive is great for older things like history of the schools. History of Pharmacy, School of Buisness, CGS (extension division), can be found here. I'd say the pages that are in immediate danger include: Arts & Science, CBA, Dental, CGS, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Social Work. Thanks again! CrazyPaco (talk) 22:45, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Pitt Pharmacy logo.gif}

Thank you for uploading Image:Pitt Pharmacy logo.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 05:14, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Law log.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:Law log.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. NotifyBot (talk) 15:36, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
