Hi Supertoll. Thanks for your courtesy. I already explained my reasons on the Discussion page for Planck units. I edited out your Planck units text because
- a) the topic doubly special relativity is fairly controversial; and
- b) because the text was too long and it was therefore giving too much emphasis to double special relativity
However, I certainly think you were right to say something about doubly special relativity, and that is why I followed your lead and supplied two links to the article. I don't mind if you expand the argument a little, with a few sentences and a bit of math, but a lot can be achieved simply by supplying links to the relevant articles. It seemed to me that some of the things you were saying really belong elsewhere. Thanks. Lucretius (talk) 00:08, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
Hi again SuperToll and once again thanks for your courtesy. Sorry I rushed into judgement - clearly your text was not about DSR at all! However, I was reacting to a gut feeling, which I think is still right, that you were using too much text for an issue that isn't really about Planck units. Your text is about relativistic transformations first and only about Planck units second. For example, the same arguments could be made about other natural units, such as Stoney units. Maybe then you should add your text to Natural units instead, though I think other editors will probably remove it there also.
You'll notice that Planck Units presently includes a section on invariant scaling. In my opinion, that section is misplaced because it is about issues that probably belong elsewhere. The section includes an argument that measurements are non-dimensional. Perhaps you could add a few sentences and a bit of math there. If you do, you should also add a citation. While you're at it, you might rewrite that whole section, since it's not very well written anyway.
Please remember that we are not supposed to present original research, nor are we supposed to clear up interpretational difficulties that theoretical physicists encounter. That's another concern I have about your text. When you say that relativistic transformations make DSR unnecessary, you are clearly making a personal judgement. In fact, you thereby imply that you know more than some physicts (such as DSR proponents). That was another reason for my gut feeling that your text is inappropriate. Hence the need for citations.
That's all I can suggest. Lucretius (talk) 22:36, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
