Talk:Supermarine Spitfire variants part one

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

[edit] What's with the article name?

Part one? Why is this article split into 2 parts. Only because it was too long?? Any way the title needs to be more explanatory than part1 (it is not a TV series!). You might consider something like "Supermarine Spitfire - Early variants" and for part II ""SS - later variants" or similar. Arnoutf (talk) 11:18, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

According to the Wikipedia guidelines on article length the article was far too long and yet it was lacking in detail, which is why it was split. See Wikipedia:Article size. Splitting the article allowed for a full description of the different Spitfire variants. The introductory paragraphs explain which versions of the Spitfire are being described; "Part one deals with Spitfires powered by Single-Stage Rolls-Royce Merlins. Part two continues with those Spitfires powered by Two-Stage Merlins and Rolls-Royce Griffon engines." Considering that Spitfire development was a continual process, with a great deal of overlap in chronology and in technological change this split between single-stage Merlin engine variants and the rest was considered to be the most logical. So far there have been no other complaints about the titles and a number of editors have worked on these articles.Minorhistorian (talk) 12:36, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
