Supreme Novices' Hurdle
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Supreme Novices' Hurdle is a Grade 1 National Hunt hurdle race in the United Kingdom for four-year-old and above novices. It is run over a distance of 2 miles 110 yards (3,319 m) on the Old Course at Cheltenham Racecourse during the Cheltenham Festival in March. There are eight hurdles to be jumped in the race.
As the opening race on the first day of the Festival, the start of the race is traditionally greeted by the "Cheltenham Roar" which signifies the beginning of the festivities.
Until 1974 the race was known as the Gloucestershire Hurdle. Prior to 1972 it was split into separate divisions, usually two, but in both 1946 and 1963 there were three races.
