Supportability engineering deals with all the aspects related to the maintenance, repair and support of systems and products to ensure continued operation or functioning of the system or product(s).
Supportability Engineering is executed during the development and design of new systems to ensure that they are supportable in a cost-effective manner. Supportability Engineering may also be performed during the operational life of the systems, to optimise the availability of the system at an acceptable cost.
Supportability Engineering is related to and developed from Integrated Logistics Support.
