Supersweet
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
SUPERSWEET is a Thai-Anglo indie youth culture magazine focusing mainly on music, art, fashion and lifestyle. SUPERSWEET originally started as a fanzine supplement to DUDE/SWEET clubnight in Thailand in 2003. Both SUPERSWEET and DUDE/SWEET are credited with being responsible for the rise of alternative music and culture in Bangkok and by virtue, Thailand as a whole.

[edit] History
SUPERSWEET and DUDE/SWEET were created by Choltida Pekanan and Pongsuang Kunprasop, the former being based in London and the latter in Bangkok. The connection to London has had a great influence on the music played at the club night as it was the only outlet for alternative music at the time. Also part of the scene are bands such as Futon and Modern Dog. The success of these bands and DUDE/SWEET had a major impact on Bangkok's youth culture has seen the birth of several other alternative club nights in the city.
[edit] Content
SUPERSWEET magazine is known for its quirky styling, innovative typography and random elements. Top Thai photographers Pansiri Siriwechapan, Kornkrit Jianpinidnun and Kriangkrai Srithongthai have all produced work for SUPERSWEET and contributors often include artists and musicians such as: The Kills, The Secret Machines, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster, Liars and Bright Eyes.
The magazine also has an online version (which previously shared webspace with its Thai party site www.dudesweet.org) with amusing and random elements like SUPERSWEET TV and monthly/weekly columns by their favourite artists.
In January 2007, SUPERSWEET launched a competition inviting bands on MySpace to submit one of their songs to a panel of judges. The competition saw a large number of unsigned bands enter and the results were announced in March. The winners were French band The Teenagers (not to be confused with the American doo-wop group of the same name).
In March 2008, SUPERSWEET announced the results of its second annual new bands competition. Winners were LA-based duo The Pity Party.
