SUPERthrive
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
SUPERthrive is the name of a liquid concentrated growth enhancer product for plants, which has been around since 1940. It contains 50 vitamins and hormones. Two listed on the bottle are, ".09% Vitamin B1; .048% 1-Napthyl acetic acid,"[1] a plant hormone. It has many adherents, including professional horticulturists, greenhouses, and, according to its packaging, "US Departments of Agriculture, Army, Navy, States, cities,[2] counties,[3] universities." It is used extensively as a treatment to revive transplanted plants. It helps plants recover and helps cuttings to grow roots. The packaging says that it should simply be added to the normal fertilization or watering regimen.
SUPERthrive was developed by Dr. John A. Thomson, now 96 years old and still working. He received a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004 for his work in marketing and advertising.[4][5]
Other commercial preparations sold for root cuttings contain other plant hormones, especially indole-3-acetic acid, the ratio of that hormone to others controlling whether a plant focuses on foliar or root growth.
