Sunset Cinema Club are an unsigned 3-piece band based in the Midlands, UK (Birmingham and home-town of Redditch).
Dom James (Guitar, vox), John Maycroft (Drums, vox) and Greg Haines (Bass, vox) formed the band as a hobby in 2001 - originally naming their musical adventure Peachfuzz, but then changing it to Sunset Cinema Club in 2002 after an old adult cinema in Birmingham (now known to the public as Adult World).
Their sound has been coined by the NME as ‘Jitter-Punk’[citation needed] and is born of a melting pot of influences, all prominent in the mix - ranging from early Post-Hardcore (Fugazi, Minutemen), Post-Punk (Talking Heads, James Chance), Funk n’ Soul (Funkadelic, Kool & The Gang), Jazzy Psychedelia (Frank Zappa, Captain Beefheart) and dischordant Indie of the early 90’s (Dinosaur Jr, Pixies).
SCC have a loyal local fan base and have thrived off the support gained from admirers Steve Lamacq, Huw Stephens (both Radio1) and John Kennedy (XFM) who have been playing various SCC demos on their respective radio shows for the past year[citation needed] – most notably the single Gojira Suit - which never made official release. In November 2006 they recorded their first Radio Session at Maida Vale Studios for Huw Stephens, and then another for John Kennedy at XFM in June 2007.
In May 2007, they also made their first ever performance abroad in Sweden, at Stockholm’s reputable Debaser 2 venue.
After a summer of UK festival appearances that included Dot to Dot, Latitude Festival and London’s Tin Pan Alley all-dayer, they have more recently started their own monthly club night – Tropical Hotdog - at Birmingham's award winning Island Cocktail Bar .
