Sunrise Mall is an enclosed shopping mall in Corpus Christi, Texas, United States. It is located at the intersection of Airline Rd & South Padre Island Drive (SPID). Anchor stores include Burlington Coat Factory, Sears, Cinemark Theaters, Stein Mart and Home Place Furniture. It's now nearly empty, with far more blank walls than shops.The Mall is located near major retail centers like Gulfway Shopping Center, and Staples Center. Lowe's and Sun Harvestare near by.

  • 1981 Sunrise Mall opens with 85 stores, with Joske's, Sears, Frost Bros., Rich's, H-E-B and Cinemark Theaters as anchors.
  • 1985 The film The Legend of Billie Jean is filmed at the Sunrise Mall.
  • 1987 Sunrise Mall expands making room for an additional anchor (Mervyns) and 10 extra stores. 2 parking garages were built to house the growing Mall.
  • 1987 Frost Bros and Joske's close due to bankruptcy and leave room for 2 anchors. Montgomery Ward fills the empty spot left by Joske's.
  • 1989 Burlington Coat Factory fills the empty spot left by Frost Bros.
  • 1992 Oshman's Super SportsUSA opens a large store in Sunrise Mall, replacing Rich's.
  • 2001 Montgomery Ward closes.
  • 2006 Texas WorkSource acquires a large section of the Mall. Mervyns closes.
  • 2007 Home Place Furniture by Wilcox opens in former Montgomery Ward Spot.
  • 2008 Wall awaits forclosure by bank on May 6th.
