Sunnybank, Bury

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sunnybank is a residential district, to the south of Bury in Greater Manchester. The area consists mostly of semi-detached houses, built in the post-war period. The main thoroughfare is Sunnybank Road, which links Manchester Road to the village of Unsworth, which itself is now a residential suburb, rather than the isolated village it once was. Sunnybank has a selection of shops and is home to a sizable Jewish community, with a synagogue, Sunnybank Hebrew Congregation, situated at the Manchester Road end of the estate. It also has a pub: the Robert Peel, and a primary school, Sunnybank County Primary School. Sunnybank also has a large field next to the primary school, where many dog walkers and footballers play. In 2004, a sports 'cage' was built at the top end of the field. However, this led to the removal of the goal-posts in the middle of the field that many felt should have stayed. No replacements have ever gone up.
