Sun Chips is a brand of rippled, multigrain chips launched in 1991 and produced by Frito-Lay.
There are several permanent flavors including Original, Harvest Cheddar, French Onion, with Garden Salsa added in 2006[1], and Cinnamon in 2007. Current limited editions (possibly only in certain test markets) include Honey Graham and Apple'N Caramel. Previous limited editions included Cinnamon Crunch early in 2007, the first time sweet flavors were added since Apple Cinnamon and Honey Nut in 1999[2]. Barbecue-flavoured Sun Chips are also available.
As of 2006, Sun Chips is the exclusive sponsor of the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Volunteer Recognition Program. Sun Chips donates $0.25 for each specially marked bag that consumers register at their website to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure in the fight against breast cancer, up to $420,000. The brand also recently launched a new advertising campaign promoting the fact that it purchases green energy credits to offset 100% of the electricity needed to make Sun Chips, as well as starting to use solar collectors at one of their plants.
Sun Chips bags note that they carry 6 grams of fat per 1 ounce serving (as opposed to the normal 10 grams of fat per once ounce serving in regular potato chips), and have no cholesterol nor trans fat. Sun Chips are also labeled as one of PepsiCo's "Smart Choices Made Easy," a list of products considered by the company as healthier alternatives to other snack foods.
A nearly identical product, SunBites, is marketed in the UK by Walkers. Utz offers a similar product, as well.
