[edit] License tagging for Image:1971 surrender.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:1971 surrender.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 07:04, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:IAF Crest.svg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:IAF Crest.svg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. [edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Su30mki1thumb.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Su30mki1thumb.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 06:36, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] infobox
hi. thanks for your comment. i agree that international affiliation is largely superflous, but it is in line with the general political parties infobox. there are however only a handfull of cases in india were this is applicable, like JD(S). Regarding 'wings' or front organisations, i could agree that perhapds cultural wing could go, but keep other. it is a significant phenomena in the Indian party system that parties have a rather wide network of affiliated orgs. For example the fact that virtually all major parties have their own trade union organisation is quite notable. Having these listings in infobox, as opposed to in chapter in main text, makes comparison between partys more systematic and easier to oversee. --Soman (talk) 08:31, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
- I would not agree with those changes. If we look at major Indian parties, these sectors are kept somewhat well separated. --Soman (talk) 08:31, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Constitution of India
Hello, Sumanch. I see you are working on the Constitution of India article. I have just finished reading a book which talks a lot about the writing of the Constitution and the deliberations in Parliament from Dr. Ambedkar's perspective. I will add some of his quotes about the Constitution soon. You might also want to look at NCERT textbooks (available online, 11th and 12th standard), they have a lot of info on the amendments etc. Good luck. I am invariant under co-ordinate transformations (talk) 16:01, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
- Here is a link that will lead you to the NCERT textbooks on Political Science for Class 11. http://www.ncert.nic.in/textbooks/testing/Index.htm If you browse the three menus at the top, you can access the Political Science texts for both Class 11 and 12, which should be helpful. Chapter 9 (http://www.ncert.nic.in/book_publishing/CLASS%2011/Indian%20Constitution%20at%20work/chap9.pdf) has some good data on amendments, how many were made in each decade etc. Let me know if you have any problems with the links. I am invariant under co-ordinate transformations (talk) 03:14, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
Hey, I made some edits/fixes to the Consti article. Question, do we really need an influence from other constitutions section ? I think that could be mentioned and then treated in a separate page.I am invariant under co-ordinate transformations (talk) 03:56, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] United States
Hi. Putting the article up for Featured Article Review is a dead end--it needs to have Featured Article status already to be eligible for review. We're proud of our United States article, but it's not a Featured Article. Any FAR you initiate will be quickly aborted. All the best, Dan.—DCGeist (talk) 07:40, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry, I didn't understand your message. Maybe if you explain your goal here vis-a-vis the article, I can help you out.—DCGeist (talk) 07:56, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
-
- I see what's going on here now. You appear to want the article to be recognized as a Featured Article. The problem is, you're nominating it in the wrong place. As I explained to you, the FAR you initiated is moot and will quickly be aborted. You need to go to Wikipedia:Featured article candidates and nominate the article there--it's an FAC you want to begin, not an FAR. Best, Dan.—DCGeist (talk) 08:18, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Indian States Etymology
Hey man, could you perhaps take a look at this article, List of Indian states by the etymology of their name, and tell me if it needs anything more (apart from citations, which I will add soon) ? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Fundamental metric tensor (talk • contribs) 18:13, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Re:West Bengal
Hi! Nice to meet you. Unfortunately I do not have any resource to shed any light on the etymology of Bongo. In case I come across something, I will try to add in List of Indian states by the etymology of their name. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 15:49, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Template:Squadrons of the Indian Air Force
Hi Sumanch,
Thanks for creating the IAF Squadron Template. However, I suggest that you move it to the more appropriate Template:IAF Squadron or Template:Indian Air Force Unit page, rather than the present page, whose name refers to all IAF squadrons in general.
My second issue is whether this template is required at all. WP:Wikiproject Military History uses standardized global templates like Template:Infobox Military Unit and Template:Infobox Weapon. These allow changes to be easily added and changed. Having a country specific infobox is cool, but not really necessary, especially since Template:Infobox Military Unit has all the information and parameters needed, and more. Plus, there are a lot more editors who will edit the syntax and improve it continuously. For an example, see the Surya Kiran page, which uses this template pretty well.
Hope you understand. Thanks a lot.
Cheers, and hope to see you around. T/@Sniperz11editssign 08:42, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Direct Action Day(protect request)
Hi, you have recently declined the request to "protect" the article. I kind of knew that will the result. What do you think should be my action regarding these changes? I dont want to start an edit war and I know, if I make any changes, this guy is going to come tomorrow and start revarting. He keeps calling me sockpuppet of some Hkelker. After researching, I learnt he was a disruptive user who got banned and created hungreds of sockpuppets. I will appreciate your sujestions. Thanks.Sumanch (talk) 09:56, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
- You should seek a third opinion or use dispute resolution. Stifle (talk) 10:23, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Direct Action Day
Hi. I was going through the article, though did not read the whole. The article has several Manual of style issues. However, those can be handled. On the other hand, there are language problems, too. the lead itself was pretty complex which I tried to make somewhat easy. Will have further tries.
What is your plan with the article? Do you want to go for a Good article status? In that case, it will need improvement in language.--Dwaipayan (talk) 03:51, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
- First, do what you are doing, that is, add facts, with citations, and finish the article. Editing for language and MoS may come later also. Do not forget to add page number or page ranges in case of book citations. I shall try to do copyedits for language (as far as I can do) and MoS. After that, a good peer review may be needed (for example, involving editors who do edit in articles relating to Indian independence movement).--Dwaipayan (talk) 17:27, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

- Ok, I get the meaning. Was the word "uncertain" used by any of the sources you used? Even if it was, there is no harm explaining the word, it should not constitute OR, rather would be easy to grasp the meaning at one go. The wording could be like, "...was uncertain of the league's influence", or, "...was uncertain of the nature of mob", or, the way you explained in my talk page. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 07:38, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
- Left several comments, and some citation needed tags in the article. Please address those. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 12:33, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
- Ok. I have not gone through the article after your edits. Anyway, what do you plan now? Adding more stuffs? (somewhere you said the article is not yet complete). If you plan to add more stuff, first let that be done. Then, further copyediting.
- The prose needs furnishing. More editors need to be involved. Something needs to be done with so many long blockquotes. The lead is also not very good. However, these may come later. You first add more stuffs, if you plan so.--Dwaipayan (talk) 16:37, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Direct Action Day contd
Hi! Yes I shall have a look in the article. However, I am not a good copyeditor. I can do preliminary copyedit, and ensure MOS etc, but, you will need better copyeditor (who can stylise the prose, and ensure better flow as well as interesting reading). However, that can come later. let's see...
The other day I came across a book in my possession, the book is on the history of legislative council of Bengal. It has some pages covering DAD. However, I found nothing new that could be incorporated into the article.--Dwaipayan (talk) 06:39, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
- Ok, I worked on the lead. The lead is the most important part of the article. I somewhat expanded the lead, in order to ensure that an uninformed reader (for example, some foreign reader who knows nothing about India and Pakistan) can have a better understanding at the first go. Have tried to use simpler sentences. Please see if the text is otherwise accurate, considering size as a limiting factor.
- However, we've a problem here. The abundance of citation superscripts in the lead is creating some hurdle in easy reading. First, see which citations are really important in the lead (think, removing which citations from the lead may lead to a controversy), and retain only those. The facts in the lead are repeated somewhere else in the article, and can/should/must be cited there. Second, after removing non-essential citations from the lead (and retaining the citations in the appropriate places in the rest of the article), shift all the citation superscripts to the end of punctuation marks, rather than having them interspersed within the sentence; this is very annoying for the reader.--Dwaipayan (talk) 07:30, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] POTD scheduling
Hi and thanks for your efforts in scheduling the POTD. However, the image you selected, Image:EtaCarinae.jpg, isn't due for POTD for a while. The POTD is usually selected in a first-in, first-out queue, and this was recently promoted so it's still got a long wait. I will shuffle things around occasionally or jump the queue for an anniversary or something, but absent any particular reason, each image needs to wait its turn.
