Summit is a town in Roberts County, South Dakota, United States. The population was 281 at the 2000 census.

Summit is located at 45°18′13″N, 97°2′14″W (45.303743, -97.037106)[3].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.4 square miles (1.0 km²), all of it land.

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 281 people, 119 households, and 74 families residing in the town. The population density was 747.2 people per square mile (285.5/km²). There were 144 housing units at an average density of 382.9/sq mi (146.3/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 83.63% White, 14.23% Native American, and 2.14% from two or more races.

There were 119 households out of which 31.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.5% were married couples living together, 13.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 37.0% were non-families. 31.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 16.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.36 and the average family size was 3.01.

In the town the population was spread out with 30.6% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 24.6% from 25 to 44, 18.5% from 45 to 64, and 19.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 97.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.2 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $18,875, and the median income for a family was $23,125. Males had a median income of $28,750 versus $17,750 for females. The per capita income for the town was $9,339. About 28.2% of families and 34.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 37.9% of those under the age of eighteen and 50.9% of those sixty five or over.
