Summerland Australian Football League

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Summerland Australian Football League or SAFL is an Australian rules football competition in the far north coast and New England region of New South Wales, Australia, in existence since 1984.

The Northern Rivers region is a competitive area for sports including soccer, rugby league and rugby union. This has caused a continual struggle for strong numbers at all the clubs and therefore has caused several teams to fold over its history. Ballina, Byron and Lismore are foundation clubs who continue to gather strong numbers while Nimbin has returned for the 2007 season and Casino maintains their involvement after being inducted in 2004. The strong junior league shows promising signs for the future of the SAFL competition for many years to come.

The current league President is Neill Winterbottom. Other members include board members from other clubs, including officials. A steering committee has been set up to create foundations for the security of the league in a prosperous future.
