The song was released as the album's third single in Australia and made its debut in the charts on April 9, 1990 at number forty-two. After five weeks of being in the charts it made its way into the top ten at number ten then jumped four places to its peak position of six. It stayed at number six for three weeks then fell down the charts from then on spending sixteen weeks in the top fifty and twenty-two weeks in the top one hundred. The song became Carlisle's fourth top ten single in Australia and was the fortieth highest selling single in Australia for 1990[1].
The song was released in the United Kingdom at the end of 1990 and become Carlisle's fifth top thirty single there. It made its debut at forty-seven and stayed around that position until its fifth week where it jumped fifteen places to number twenty-five. The week after that it reached its peak position in the UK at number twenty-three then fell down the charts from then on, spending ten weeks in the top seventy-five. [edit] Cover versions
"Summer Rain" was covered by Australian dance act Slinkee Minx in 2004 for their first album Electric Dreams (2007). It was the first song released from the album, and was released in Australia on August 9, 2004 as a CD single. The song was released under the record label Central Station and was produced by Mike Felks. Slinkee Minx's version of the song was a much remixed dancier version than Carlisle's and was received well.
The song made its debut on the singles chart at number five, hitting the top spot on the dance chart knocking off "Push Up" by the Freestylers. On its second week it fell out of the top ten to number eleven but jumped back into the top ten, staying there for four more weeks. It spent fifteen weeks in the top fifty and eighteen weeks in the top one hundred, becoming the sixty-first highest selling single in Australia for 2004[2] and was accredited gold by ARIA[3]. "Summer Rain" was released to clubs in more than fifty countries including the U.S., UK and Europe.
A more recent cover was made by German dance act Groove Coverage.
