Sumitra Iyer (born June 26 ,[India]]), is a well-known Voice of India contestant and playback singer.She is an extremely versatile singer and fluently changes her voice while singing. For example, she sang the parts of asha Bhosle as well as usha Uthup Iyer in the song I Love you in Hare Rama Hare Krishna for her auditions and strongly made her mark as one of the strongest contestants to watch out for.

A charming, charismatic dynamic young and extremely talented IT professional , she decided to take on her passion for years as her main career stream and for once put the booming IT career on the back burner. As she takes on the platform provided by Star Voice Of India(SVOI), there a pleasant beaming confidence coupled with a marvellous voice, singing style of graceful versatility and a penchant to adapt herself all the time to different styles. This is the profile of one of the most gifted and promising young talent, Sumitra Iyer. As the name suggests, she is from the authentic south Indian family, who firmly believes in the importance of education and encouragement for the music. Sumitra began singing at the age of 3 to the tunes of hanuman chalisa with her mother. Her parents noticed her natural instinct and exceptional grasp for learning songs. Being an Iyer, learning classical music was a very natural process and given the talent she was, that’s exactly what Sumitra’s parents did. She was well appreciated by her Guru Mrs Saroja. This was the beginning of her journey along with the rigors of the studies. She started singing at different functions, religious gatherings and won many competitions (almost all intercollegiate competitions) and prizes (eg Hridaynath M young talent search award-1994, etc). She has successfully done her masters in the computer applications and then during her tenure as an IT Professional, visited US and UK for work being the project leader for many projects that she did for companies like GE, Wachovia and Bank of America. She opted to return back to India for continuing her passion for music. To her credit, she has the success in SVOI, where she came 5th. This provided her the stage and the exposure that’s needed. She has been doing solo live shows alone up to three hours as well as with renowned artists like Sonu Nigam, Hariharan ji, Lesley L. She has lent her voice in couple of albums for productions companies like Mantri Constructions etc. Her first movie break came in through a song in one of the PVR films – Mere Khwabon Me Jo Aaye, with Lalit Pandit. Versatility is her forte. She has got the modern powerful voice, incredible voice modulation capabilities and a gifted to sing in really low ranges. She has been a trained carnatic classical singer and adapts hre vpice to suit all styles from Indian Bollywood music to Madonna, Shakira. She is apt at singing different styles of songs like fast, rap, hip-hop, classical base, serious songs along with Arabic songs or western ones etc. Apart from singing, she has a flair for mimicry. Put her on stage and ask her to mimic styles different actresses, different singers and rest assured the audience will be awed by her grasp of the nuances of those personalities. Today be it live shows, corporate events, film awards nights or reality shows Sumitra is everywhere thanks to the public demand and love she has gained. Not one to rest on her laurels, she now will be back to training in Classical music so she can improve her skills. She has been focusing on enhancing her repertoire including western music, Arabic music. Her ambition is to excel in this very beautiful field of music and leave her mark as a versatile singer. She is also being approached for anchoring TV shows She will also been seen doing a lot of television appearances including reality shows, ad films and guest appearances in other reality shows and in all this being a technocart that she is, she will also be using her IT skills in music.
