Come on Sully wikipedians....the village has existed for hundreds of years, there must be more history than this if you do some digging in local books, library, parish council archives. Any famous people born or lived there? Any archeological finds? Shipwrecks or lifeboat rescues? What about the history of the chemical plant (Wolf Plant?), the Plastics Club on the corner of Swanbridge Lane?....also how about a bus timetable or even bus provider contacts... 21stCenturyGreenstuff (talk) 00:27, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
- I'm a little bit concerned about some of the material you've added. This is an encyclopaedia, not a visitor's guide (although you could try Wikitravel if you want that kind of thing). We don't need to know where the post office is, or who the headmistress of the school is, and frankly this tendency for bodging loads of bus timetable information into location pages is worrying as well. I agree this pages needs expansion, but it needs to be properly sourced historical information and not trivia. Vashti (talk) 00:48, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
- That is easily fixed Vashti. I lifted the school paragraph off the school's website, but have pared it down now. I agree this is an encyclopaedia, but what is an encyclopaedia exactly, could any two people agree on a definition? and when is it going to be used? Most likely by someone who has not visited the area and knows nothing....or a local seeking deeper knowledge. It is difficult to gauge the browsers needs and surely it is better to err on side of giving too much information as long as it is correct and a neutral POV...let the reader pick the bones out of it and discard what they don't want. Anyway, can you help with any local study on village history, its a bit difficult for me, being 250 miles away....if it isn't on the internet thats me stymied?....do you do historical, nose in document stuff, or are you a cyberwarrior only?....or do you just edit others efforts? - As to "what is an encyclopaedia", Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not is the relevant policy here. You'll see that it states "Wikipedia is not a manual, textbook or guidebook: ... An article on Paris should mention landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre, but not the telephone number or street address of your favorite hotel or the price of a café au lait on the Champs-Élysées. Wikipedia is not a place to re-create content more suited to entries in hotel guides, culinary guides, travelogues, and the like."

- I myself no longer live in Sully (though my family have lived there for nearly a century), and I rarely have the time to write article text. I try to act as a WikiGnome, cleaning up content and helping others to improve their own contributions. Nice to see some more material being added. I'm a bit disturbed, however, to find that much of it appears to be a copyvio from this page - some rewriting is urgently called for.
I'm also startled to learn that the hospital was closed down in 2000, as I was treated there in 2001 when there were still patients on wards! What's the source for this date? Vashti (talk) 01:29, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
- The source for the close date was at http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/wales/south_east/3012482.stm an article dated 2003 that referred to the hospital having been closed for three years which made it 2000. Additionally I found a Glamorgan Hospitals Trust PDF where I picked up the info about the King opening it, detailed various change over dates for the various administrations/trusts and the shift to psychiatric speciality and it gave a closing date of 2000, but oddly I cannot find that PDF now despite using the same search - erm are you sure you were in there in 2001??? LOL. I didn't do that other rewrite with the building details and hadn't spotted it was a straight lift, but I will do a rewording in the next week or so and pretty it up a bit. On the hunt for pictures at present, there are few at Geograph with Commons licences, but they are not very inspiring 21stCenturyGreenstuff (talk) 02:04, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

- I was definitely there in 2001, as I was living in London and Finland in 2000, Sully in 2001 and London again by the end of 2001. :) Of course WP:V, but I'll keep an eye out for more sources.
I think I am just about done now. I cannot find anything further on Sully on the Internet and have exhausted any references. But on the whole I am happier that Sully is properly represented. The entry is somewhat of an improvement on the single sentence entry that existed before I started with this.
