The Sultanate of Women (Turkish: Kadınlar Saltanatı) is the nearly 130-year period, in the 16th and 17th centuries, during which the women of the Harem of the Ottoman Empire exerted extraordinary political influence. During this time many of the Sultans were minors and their mothers who were inmates of the Harem effectively ruled the Empire.
