[edit] Academics

Sullivan High School has a variety of academic teams. Currently, the school competes in Academic Super Bowl, Knowledge Masters Open, Quiz Bowl, Science Olympiad, Spell Bowl, Tech Trek, and occasionally, Science Bowl competitions. Many of the teams compete (and do well) in Western Indiana Conference competitions. The Spell Bowl team has been very successful in the recent past going to the state finals six years straight and winning three state championships in the process. The team also currently holds the Western Indiana Conference title. Sullivan High School under the direction of Mark Craig won 10 sequential bids to state for sience Olymidad and in 3 ocasions took first place at State. Unfortunately the continuation to Nationals is based on team score not event score and the team has yet to make nationals. Though if the 1999-2000 team had moved on to nationals the time for the only event in which they qualified that year would have won their respective event by 12 seconds, that event was Wright Brothers. Sullivan High School is a highly competitive and academically challenging school that rivals any of the large urban schools in the nation.

[edit] Athletics

SHS sponsors 17 varsity sports, nine for boys (baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, tennis, track and field, and wrestling) and eight for girls (basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field, and volleyball). All of the varsity teams compete in the Western Indiana Conference and the Indiana state tournament.

The school also sponsors club bowling teams and, in the past, a gymnastics team.

Sullivan High School has never won a state championship in any sport despite reaching the finals a few times. State finals participations include baseball (1976), girls' basketball (1982), softball (1985) and boys' golf (1997).
