Sulkava

Sulkava is a municipality of Finland.
It is located in the province of Eastern Finland and is part of the Southern Savonia region. The municipality has a population of 3,306 (2003) and covers an area of 769.29 km² of which 180.56 km² is water. The population density is 5.6 inhabitants per km². The municipality is best known for the annual long distance rowing contest Sulkavan suursoudut. The contest features various disciplines during 4 days. The route is about 58 km , around Partalansaari (en:Partala Island) on Saimaa.
The municipality is unilingually Finnish.
