Suk-yeong

"Suk-yeong" is a character in "Dae Jo Yeong (TV series)", a second wife of Balhae's King Dae Jo Yeong. She has the last royal blood of Goguryeo and is treated like Bojang of Goguryeo's real daughter. She was once liked by Yeon Namsaeng, the son of Yeon Gaesomun Namsaeng even said that he will win the War against Tang and will come back to marry her and when Namsaeng won his first battle, Sukyeong had the fear of marrying him as she has fallen for Dae Jo Yeong earlier in the series. Following the fall of Goguryeo, when Dae Joyoung was paralyzed, she took care of him and aid his recovery. King Bojang pleaded with Joyoung to marry his niece the first time, Dae Jo yeong politely refused stating that he had plan to live his life alone and that his partner will suffer loneliness as he will often be out on campaigns, Military or not. When the aging King Bojang is captured and send to exile, Dae Jo Yeong when to visit him as a Tang Gatekeeper, King Bojang pleaded with him the second time, he agreed as it was the last request of King Bojang for he did not wish to leave his niece a middle-age spinster. She bore Dae Jo Yeong two sons Dan-ni and Jeok and will later become the empress of the Balhae Kingdom. After being the Empress of Balhae, when the need to create an Heir Apparent came up, She was afraid knowing there was a high possibility that her step-son Geom could be the next Crown Prince of Balhae. However in the end it was her son Dan-ni that became Crown Prince as Geom had left knowing if he stayed, the Country would have weakened as the Ministers and Warriors would be divided One side bases on Merits and Talents or The other side preferring the bloodline of their predecessor state Goguryeo or the others who wish to placate them both and came up with the a solution which they never will.
