Suite Smells of Excess

"Suite Smells of Excess" is the 214th episode of of the FOX animated television series King of the Hill.

When the guys take Bobby to a college football game, their hijinks land them in a VIP box suite and calling plays for the visiting team.

The episode starts when the Hills are shopping in Mega-lo-Mart, and Hank notices Bobby intently watching a football game on an HD Plasma TV. Happily realizing that Bobby likes football, Hank takes Bobby to a football game, the Big 12 Championship Game between the Texas Longhorns and the Nebraska Cornhuskers, along with Dale, Boomhauer, and Bill. When Hank discovers that Dale, as usual, screwed up the tickets, he buys tickets from a nearby scalper, only to find that the tickets lead them to a nose-bleed section, where they can't see anything.

Later, during the game, as the Longhorns are losing, Bobby meanders around and finds himself in an empty luxury VIP suite and has a great view of the game. When Hank eventually finds Bobby, he ultimately decides to stay there, arguing with his conscience that it's vital for Bobby. He also believes that their presence there is creating a "mojo" for the Longhorns. Dale, Bill, and Boomhauer finally come to the suite, and begin to take advantage of their luck.

When Nebraska's coach is knocked out, the nervous secondary coach calls the suite the Hills are in, asking for the renter, who is a retired Nebraska player. Convinced by the others to give the coach an idiotic play, Hank tells the coach to free kick the ball away, convincing the coach that the Longhorns would never expect it. Unfortunately, the idea backfires because the Longhorns never do expect it, and fumble as Nebraska scores a touchdown and wins the game.

However, the guys' misfortune doesn't end there. The secondary coach points to the suite that they're in to the cameras, and now the five must escape the stadium. Through a series of close calls, they manage to escape the ire fans, and join a Nebraska convoy for protection. As Hank laments Bobby's ruined chance to like football, he is gladdened to hear that Bobby is still interested in the sport, despite the Longhorns' loss.

In an alternate plot, Peggy, who stayed at home because of her football rage, trashes the Hills' living room in fury and throws the remote into the TV when the Longhorns lose. At the end of the episode, she goes to the Mega-lo-mart to replace it, telling the employee that the previous one "suddenly died out."

• The episode's title is a play on the phrase the sweet smell of success.
• Hank mentions the winner of the game gets a spot in the Rose Bowl.
• Hank also says that the Longhorns can still have a spot in the Gator Bowl, Peach Bowl or (after adding "may God forbid") the Pacific Life Holiday Bowl. The Longhorns did, in fact, end up playing in The Pacific Life Holiday Bowl against The Arizona State Sun Devils.
• However, the Peach Bowl had been called the Chick-fil-A Bowl since 2005.
• After escaping the stadium, the gang buys shirts which say "Nebraska Cornhuskers, Big 12 Champions" for disguise. They also bought the shirts from the same scalper that sold them the tickets.
• Though it is true both teams play in the Big 12 Conference, Big 12 teams can't play in the Chick-fil-A Bowl unless either the ACC or SEC can supply a team and the Big 12 has more than enough bowl-eligible teams and the bowl selects one of them. Nor does the Big 12 Champion traditionally play in the Rose Bowl.
• In the episode, the Longhorns play at Alamo Field, a fictional stadium that is located in Houston, Texas. The Big 12 Championship is played in a neutral stadium, and in 2005, was played in Houston, at Reliant Stadium, with the Longhorns defeating Colorado soundly. This was the last game before Texas defeated USC in the 2006 Rose Bowl for the BCS National Title. During the episode, Hank remarks that the winner of this game is going to play in the Rose Bowl.
• This episode gave King of the Hill its best Nielsen rating since November 16, 2003^[1].
