Suggen

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Suggen (died 6 August 1895) was the name of a female Samoyed who served as a lead dog along with a male Samoyed named Kaifas on Fridtjof Nansen's attempted trip to the North Pole.

While initially a part of a large group of Samoyeds, Nansen's plan to feed the weaker dogs to the stronger as they progressed on their expedition eventually eliminated all of the animals but Kaifas and Suggen, and these two eventually were put down when the expedition reached open water and the dogs could not be brought along.
