Sugarcandy Mountain
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sugarcandy Mountain is a fictional country from Animal Farm by George Orwell. Its name is clearly a combination of the words sugar, candy, and mountain; this can be compared to the fictional land described in the American ballad "Big Rock Candy Mountain." Thematically, the myth can be compared to the idea of Heaven in many religions.
In Animal Farm, the idea of Sugarcandy Mountain is an idea created by the tame raven Moses, pet of the farmer Mr. Jones, to counteract the rebellion. Sugarcandy Mountain is claimed to be situated somewhere in the sky, a little distance above the clouds. Moses claims all animals go to the mountain when they die, and he claims that there it is Sunday seven days a week, clover is in season all year round and lumpsugar and linseed cake grows on the hedges.
