Sugar Grove Township is located on the southern edge of Kane County, Illinois at 41.773086 N, 88.421438 W. It is a 6 mile square, of which 35.00564 square miles are land and 0.183695 are water. Its population in the 2000 Census was 9,595. It has 3,384 housing units.
The Township encompasses an area that extends to Orchard Road to the east, Baseline Road (Route 30) to the south, Dugan Road to the west and Seavey Road/Tanner Road to the north.
The township includes the Village of Sugar Grove.

The town hall is located at 70 West First Street Sugar Grove, IL. The township is lead by an elected Supervisor and four Trustees. The other elected officials are the Assessor, Clerk and Highway Commissioner,
The Sugar Grove Library District now covers both Sugar Grove and Blackberry Townships.
