Subgranular zone

Subgranular zone (SGZ) is a brain region in the dentate gyrus where adult neurogenesis occurs. It is one of the two major known adult neurogenesis sites of the brain, along with subventricular zone (SVZ).[1] SGZ lays deep within the hippocampal parenchyma, at the interface between the granule cell layer and the hilus of the dentate gyrus.
