[edit] Renaming discussion
With the CfD discussion on renaming being filed under "no consensus", I suggest we attempt to create one here.
Obviously there is a problem with the categories "Subdivisions of Foo". As I see it, we should rename to a single term which does feel natural and is also correct. Distilling from the discussion on CFD, there are three options:
- Administrative divisions of Foo
- Political divisions of Foo
- Country subdivisions of Foo
Any options I've missed? The Minister of War (Peace) 08:18, 13 April 2006 (UTC)
- i changed your proposal to "Country subdivisions of Foo". You missed the option to use
- Subdivisions of Foo
since Foo is a country it might be regarded unecessary to have the word country in the lead. We furthermore need to think about:
- Historical ...divisions of Foo
- Former ...divisions of Foo
- ...divisions of historic countries
"..." means "Administrative" / "Political" / "Sub" / "Country Sub" Tobias Conradi (Talk) 12:04, 13 April 2006 (UTC)
- The qualifier doesn't have to be "sub-", but I oppose the suggested move to "administrative". Since some divisions are not administrative or political, e.g. landscapes, regions, districts, metropolitan regions, and villages, I think it shouldn't be "administrative" or "political". And since many divisions are modern and current, e.g. states, counties, provinces, boroughs, municipalities, towns, and cities, I think it shouldn't be "historical" or "former". How about
- "geographical" or
- "geographical and administrative"?

[edit] ...divisions of Myanmar, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan
For these countries there exists the term "administrative" division for a specific type of subdivisions. E.g. The administrative divisions of Myanmar consist of (administrative) divisions and states. Tobias Conradi (Talk) 14:06, 16 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Cameroon
Cameroon has an actual political subdivision called a subdivision. It is the next step down from division, and two steps down from province. Therefore, this categorization scheme does not work for Cameroon. There are currently no articles on Cameroon's subdivisions, but Category:Subdivisions of Cameroon should be for potential articles like Yokadouma subdivision, not a catch all for Cameroon's provinces, divisions, and subdivisions.
Is there an alternate name for the catch-all Category:Subdivisions of Cameroon that would allow that category to be used for Cameroon's subnational entities that are really called subdivisions? — BrianSmithson 12:49, 12 June 2006 (UTC)
