Talk:Style over substance fallacy
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Style over substance as a concept is not in itself a logical fallacy. The examples given here do not take into account things that 'sound good' but aren't logical. The hoax article by Alan Sokal "Transgressing the Boundaries: Towards a Transformative Hermeneutics of Quantum Gravity" was written in response to a number of literary and cultural critics who used the appropriate style to advance theories which were non-sensical hence 'style over substance' could be realistically applied here. This is not to mention countless examples of political speeches which are heavy on spin and light on policy.
[edit] Neutrality?
"nonsense even by critical theory standards" seems like a wry dig at a subject the author does not approve of. Moon Oracle 17:57, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
- I agree, and have removed it. That entire section looks OR-ish and might be omitted with advantage. 67.158.76.243 02:15, 15 September 2007 (UTC)
