I think the detail of Murdoch's sexuality is relevant to the bio. It's often referenced in profiles in the mainstream press, and conflict and anxiety about sexuality and gender roles are a very frequent theme in his lyrics. The information also helps to clarify his relationship to institutional Christianity, which at the moment is a prominent subject of the article. Please discuss the matter here before deleting again. I agree it's relevant, so long as it's public knowledge regarding his orientation. IMO, the only important factor is verifiability. Find a reference that definitively has proof (or admission) of Murdoch's sexual orientation, and then, sure, put it in here. Find a reference that misrepresents his orientation, then put that in as well as an example of how the media screws it up. This is very delicate, though, so it needs to be properly referenced - hearsay isn't enough. --Dwiki 20:51, 6 August 2006 (UTC)
Also, how does writing a song from a woman's perspective make you gay? I'm not going to remove this paragraph, but I am adding the verify sources template and I will delete the para. eventually if nobody steps up to verify this info. --Dwiki 20:54, 6 August 2006 (UTC)
Well, actually I think adding a ton of references does give the subject too much importance, but here are a few Google hits on "Stuart Murdoch heterosexual": http://www.sundayherald.com/53559 (and here's a cache of the blog post it refers to), http://www.thestranger.com/seattle/Content?oid=31200 (which quotes Stuart's self-description, as "straight to the point of boring myself."), http://www.stereogum.com/archives/002815.html (just gossip, but the point of the paragraph is that it's gossip). Feel free to put any of that in, or track down the book with Murdoch's quote.
Stuart's view on gay marriage is archived on their website in the section where they answer letters from fans.
As for writing songs from a female perspective, of course it doesn't make you gay any more than having a soft voice does. But it can make you sound gay when you sing such lyrics as "I've got a boyfriend" (from "Dress Up in You") and it's not obvious on first hearing that the song is meant to be a character piece.

Oh hey, can you find anything on his days as an amateur boxer? It's mentioned in a few places but I haven't found anything that says where or when.
