Stuart "Archie" Lovell (born 9 January 1972 in Sydney, Australia) is an Australian-born English professional footballer, who played predominately as a striker.
Born in Australia, Lovell moved to England at an early age, and was brought up in Reading. He joined Reading Football Club, his local team, as an apprentice on their Youth Training Scheme. While there, he was part of the team that narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League in the 1994–95 season. Lovell was the player that famously had a penalty saved in the first half of the playoff final against Bolton Wanderers when Reading were 2–0 up. Bolton eventually won 4–3 after extra time. The following season, he damaged a cruciate ligament.
He later played for Scottish teams Hibernian, Livingston, and Dumfries club Queen of the South (with whom he had a spell as caretaker boss), and has also played for the Australia national team.
Lovell lives in Edinburgh with his wife Nicola and his two children, and now works for Setanta Sports in the United Kingdom on its Scottish Premier League coverage.
