[edit] Not "Striker's" but "Strikers"
The apostrophe should be removed from the title of the article but I don't know how.
[edit] Created
The article "Striker's Independent Society" was created on 3-July-2006 (by User:Plange), with reference footnotes for each statement. It was expanded in February 2007 with section "Offshoots in New Orleans" and the Mardi-Gras logo image. -Wikid77 14:06, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] PNG image problems
15-Nov-2007: Back on 3-April-2007, the Mardi-Gras logo GIF image (only 2K) was replaced with a PNG-converted image by wiki bot User:PNG_crusade_bot. Although the GIF-format image was only 2K (half-second display time even at slow dial-up speed), the auto-conversion bot did not weigh the effort expended to convert a trivial, tiny image: the bot just went PNG-psycho, relentlessly converting everything to PNG that it could. Many PNG images displayed 3x times slower than equivalent GIF images, and a whopping 6x-21x times slower than JPEG images: although some PNG images stored as 5% smaller than GIFs, once those PNG images were wiki-thumbnailed for actual display, the intermediate PNG files were typically 100x-400x times the 5% larger now, the exact opposite, "bass-ackwards" on steroids, up to 400 times that difference larger, not smaller. In October 2007, for English Wikipedia only, the true sizes of PNG files were hidden when the right-click menu was disabled for PNG/SVG images (but not disabled for GIF/JPEG images); the disabled right-click menu also prevented displaying PNG/SVG images as "Open in New Window" (but not disabled on Wikimedia Commons or other wikipedias). By November 2007, PNG images refused to stay magnified to oversize dimensions: after a few seconds of large display, the PNG images would auto-shrink to the size of the original PNG image (but GIF images would still remain when oversized). Hey, on 14-Nov-2007, I converted the PNG image back to GIF (quick thinking, huh?). Now as a GIF image, the Mardi-Gras logo is wikilinked by right-click "Open in New Window" again. -Wikid77 14:06, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] What?
OK, so it's a secret society, so maybe you can't expect much information. That does not excuse the woefulness of this article. Why even bother? There's so little here as to leave your readers more confused than when they started. Or is that the point?
Scrap the whole entry -- it serves no purpose. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.141.210.55 (talk) 19:03, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
- This is a puzzling comment. It's quite an informative article about an interesting and historic organization, one that is at the root of North American mardi Gras obsrvance, itslef a topic of general interest.
