It deserves a thorough explanation, though that gives some impression. Simply put, what it is is the ability to survive and retain sanity under the most extreme pressure and deprivation -poverty, isolation and persecution. Genuine hardness is not physical-we all have the same physical tolerances-but mental and, well, almost spiritual. It's not something you can ever learn. You have to be born into a deprivation on the level of Hell, and raised in it until it is all you know, to be called hard by me.
