Stripped is a live album by The Rolling Stones and was released in 1995 while on the Voodoo Lounge Tour. The album is notable for being unlike any previous live release by the band in that it features a mix of intimate club recordings and live-in-the-studio reinterpretations of some classic and obscure recordings from their extensive catalogue.
The in studio sessions were recorded in two parts: from 3 - 5 March 1995 in Tokyo, Japan and 23 - 26 July in Lisbon, Portugal while the live club dates are spread out from performances in London, Paris and Amsterdam.
As a bonus for the CD package, some versions of Stripped came with bonus data tracks viewable only through computer containing rehearsal performances of "Tumbling Dice" and "Shattered" and an alternate performance of "Like a Rolling Stone", with the addition of interviews with Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood.
Released in November 1995 as their second album with Virgin Records, Stripped (a play on the title of Unplugged) was well-received with its relaxed and natural feel and reached #9 in both the UK and US, going platinum the latter territory. Lead single, a cover of Bob Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone" reached #12 in the UK, becoming a rock radio hit in the US, and was followed up by "Wild Horses" in early 1996.
