Strident Publishing Company was founded in 2005 and is based in Glasgow. In early 2006 its first two titles Lee and the Consul Mutants and Lee Goes For Gold - both by author Keith A Charters - claimed the no.1 and no.4 slots respectively in the Children's Best Sellers chart published by The Herald.

In November 2006, Strident launched a third LEE title - Lee's Holiday Showdown (www.keithcharters.co.uk)
In September 2007 Strident launched DarkIsle ([www.darkislethebook.co.uk]), by D A Nelson, which was subsequently bought by publishers in the US, Canada, Germany, Italy, Spain, Japan and Korea. The US edition will be launched in hardback by Delacorte Press (part of Random House Children's Books) in Fall 2008. The paperback version will be available in the UK from 26 May 2008. DarkIsle is the first in a series of books, with the second due out in hardback in the UK in October 2008.
In March 2008 Strident published an updated version of The King of the Copper Mountains, by Paul Biegel, a timeless children's classic. This version has a new introduction from Leonie Biegel, the late author's daughter. It also has a vibrant new cover and completely new interior illustrations, both by Sally J Collins.
September 2008 will bring the launch of Spider by established author Linda Strachan. Spider is a gritty, urban young adult novel centred around joyriding.
In October 2008 Strident will launch Bad Faith by Gillian Philip, a teen/adult crossever novel that is a coming-of-age murder mystery set against a dystopic background that touches on religion and politics.
