Striated muscle

Striated muscle is a form of fibres that are separated into parallel fibres.^[1] More specifically, it can refer to:

• Skeletal muscle
• Cardiac muscle

In practice, the term "striated muscle" is sometimes used to refer exclusively to skeletal muscle when distinguishing it from smooth muscle.^[2] However, different medical dictionaries report different usages of the terms. Cardiac muscle is a different type of muscle, but has almost the same structure as skeletal muscle.
