[edit] Gameplay
Street Fighter EX3 follows a similar gameplay system to its predecessor Street Fighter EX2 Plus with characters being able to pull off similar moves like super combos and meteor combos. However, the remarkable difference here is that the "guard break" system from the previous instalments has been "removed" and replaced with a similar system called the "critical parade" system which does not use up energy stored "super bars". The core gameplay is essentially the same as previous installments, however EX 3 features tag battles, similar to games like Tekken Tag Tournament, allowing players to switch between characters when the appropriate gauge has filled. Each player can have up to four characters, however the life bar becomes divided between the four. The only exception to this is the final boss.
[edit] Criticism and reception
Street Fighter EX 3 generally received poor to mediocre reviews upon its initial release. The main criticisms of the game were that the tag battle system was tedious and that there were no new characters. However, some reviewers did acknowledge that the game would please Street Fighter die-hards.[2]
[edit] Legacy
Street Fighter EX 3 did garner some notoriety for being the first "bad" game in the Street Fighter franchise in that it was a commercial and critical flop. Some even blame Street Fighter EX 3 as being the reason for the franchise's hiatus for seven long years. Street Fighter IV will release in Japanese and US arcades in 2008,[3] soon followed by release on the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC gaming platforms.
