[edit] Gameplay

The console version of Street Fighter EX2 Plus features five Gameplay modes: Arcade, Versus, Practice, Director, and Bonus Game.

[edit] Arcade

Arcade is the main feature of EX2 Plus. In this mode, Players choose a fighter from up to 27 characters. Players then head into battle, facing off against multiple foes. The Arcade mode of EX2 Plus is of much more excitement than that of its predecessor. Enemies are divided and separated based on difficulty. There are a total of 7 Enemies, along with bonus matches (that are marked as a "B") before facing the remaining three foe. These bonus matches are tasks that a player can choose to successfully accomplish. If the player accomplishes the task, they are granted benefits that will aid them in the next battle. For example, the first bonus match tests the Player's ability to use the new "Excel" feature, to defeat an enemy known as Cycloid Beta.

If the player succeeds within the time limit, they are granted free use of the Excel feature at no regular cost of 1/3 of their Super Combo Meteor Gauge, in the next battle. Commonly, secret fighters can be fought within the Arcade Mode. However, they require excellent finishing of previous foes. A player will know if they finished off their enemy using excellency of Super Combos, or Meteor Combos, by seeing symbols added to their fighter. The first 4 battles are completely random, where the player can face off against any fighter with the exception of the 3 Boss fighters. The last 3 fighters are default bosses that the player must face and defeat to complete the arcade mode. The first boss is known as Garuda. However, players may find him incredibly easy, or incredibly difficult depending on whether they accomplished the second bonus match. After the player defeats Garuda, their next Boss is Sagat. After defeating him, the last boss, Bison, will step in. Depending on the player's skills, this Boss can be extremely difficult. The better the player, the harder he is. If the player defeats Bison, along with every other previous fighter, with an excellent finisher, using either a Meteor Combo, or a Super Combo, then the player faces off against a hidden super powerful version of Bison, known as Bison 2. Bison 2 is the final major enemy to face, and he offers many benefits if defeated. However, he is incredibly difficult and powerful. After the player defeats Bison or Bison 2, they have finished the arcade mode. Whichever character the player used to finish arcade, a brief profile of that player will emerge on the screen, ending arcade. During the credits, the player then has the choice to fight Cycloid Beta and use him as a punching bag.

[edit] Versus

A new and much more improved versus battle mode, EX2 offers an exhilarating amount of fun with the new versus mode. Players can fight head to head in a single match, consisting of many rounds. Alternately, players can have a team battle. In team battle, players can assemble up to 5 fighters, and head into battle. Which ever team defeats the other first wins. These options are also available to single players, who wish to simply fight with the Computer.

[edit] Practice

EX2 Plus offers a wide array of tasks within its huge practice mode. Players can come here to train with a fighter, to better understand not only the character themselves, but also the mechanics of the game. EX2 Plus offers many challenges and tasks within the practice mode. Within the practice mode, players are challenged with Expert and Maniac modes. Both of which test the player's learnt abilities, and trains them to be the perfect fighter. Players can also unlock secret characters and/or options by completing each task of a certain amount of characters.

[edit] Director

A brand new feature introduced in the EX Series, the Director mode provides visual fun for all street fighters. Players enter the movie world, as they choose a character, and engage in cinematic like experiences with them. While the player is essentially still fighting, they can easily manipulate every aspect and corner of the fight. In essence, even the opponent is controlled. Players can: Rewind, Pause, Fast-Forward, Turn Clockwise or Counterclockwise, or adjust the screen to see each intense action moment. In director, the player themselves are actually directing a fight.

[edit] Bonus Game

The Bonus Game is a special feature uniquely introduced to EX2 Plus. Players enter the bonus world, and play around in Bonus matches. These matches are the same as the ones in Arcade Mode, but have other specialties. Players also have the opportunity to knock down barrels, in the Barrel feature in the Bonus Mode. The barrel mode is designed to test the player's skills to stay on their feet, while moving quickly knocking down barrels. Many barrels are extremely heavy, making them require stronger force to break. A new Boss is also introduced to the Street Fighter universe, and to the EX Series, Bison 2. Players can face off against the super powered version of Bison, without the worry of never fighting him again (unlike in arcade). In Bonus Game, every challenge and task are Bonus tasks that the player can further explore and enjoy.

[edit] Characters

Street Fighter EX2 Plus features 25 playable characters, and 27 total characters. Of these 27 total characters, Bison 2 and Cycloid Beta are the only two characters that cannot be unlocked within the game (without the use of a codebreaker or a gameshark). Most of the past EX characters have returned, with a few new ones making a first appearance ever within the Street Fighter universe. The following are all the characters within the EX2 world:

Regulars

Unlockables

Hidden

  • Bison 2
  • Cycloid Beta

The Regular characters are those that are given automatically when starting a new game. Unlockables are those the player needs to unlock by themselves. Hidden characters are those that are impossible to unlock without the use of a gameshark or a codebreaker.

[edit] Special Features

[edit] Excel

Street Fighter EX2 Plus offers many unique features to the EX series. Its most popular and recognizable is the new "Excel" Feature. During Excel, a player moves incredibly faster, dealing lethal and deadly amount of combos on the opponent. When activated, the excel feature creates a cybernetic view on the screen, as a result of the activation. The Excel feature enables the player to connect an infinite amount of hits, depending on how skilled and quick the player themself is. However, the opponent can still fight and even knock the excelled player out, rendering them defenseless and immobile. The excel feature in EX2 Plus makes it one of the most exciting Street Fighter games to date. The excel feature sacrifices an equal amount of that of a Super Combo, which is 1/3 of the 3 combined meteor. However, unlike a Super Combo which can be easily evaded, if the excelled player connects at least one hit on the opponent, it is impossible to escape if they continue.

[edit] Bison 2

Another new feature that EX2 Plus brings to the Street Fighter universe, is a new boss known as Bison 2. Bison 2 is a super powered version of Bison, known to be the resurrected version when he was killed. He is extremely powerful and vastly difficult to defeat. Bison 2 can be faced at the end of Arcade Mode, and unlock fighting him within the Bonus Game. When fighting Bison 2, the stage is the same as that of a Meteor Combo. He has an infinite amount of Super Combo, and can be vastly harder than any other Boss in the Street Fighter universe. In arcade, he offers benefits if he is defeated, such as vast amount of points for the ranking system. However, he cannot be unlocked manually within the game (without the use of a Gameshark or Codebreaker).

[edit] Super Combo Gauge

The Super Combo Gauge of EX2 Plus, features a more powerful version known as a Meteor Combo. As with regular and almost all Street Fighter games, players work and try to bring their gauge up by attacking the opponent, or perform various abilities. A Super Combo is a super move of a character. It is more powerful than a Regular Move, which unlike a Super Combo, requires no Gauge to perform. All characters within EX2 Plus have at least 2 Super Combos, while others have as many as 4 or even 5. However, all characters can perform a Meteor Combo. A Meteor Combo is an ultra powerful move, that eats off a tremendous amount of life gauge, inflicting potent damage. A Meteor Combo requires all 3 combined Super Combo gauge.
