Stratherne School

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Stratherne School district #349 was created in the Rural Municipality of Oakland in the province of Manitoba about 1885 (accurate date coming). A rural school built by pioneers, it was first located on Section SW 22-8-17 on a site from the property of pioneer settler William Jackson.
It was a small wooden structure made of lumber cut by another pioneer James Elder who lived several miles North. The first teacher may have been Mr. Morgan.
The school was determined to not be convenient so was moved by horse power a mile north after a few years.
In 1951 a new school was built but it closed during consolidation in Manitoba, in about 1958.
