Stratford International station is a railway station located in Stratford in the London Borough of Newham in East London. The station has been built as part of work on the second phase of High Speed 1 and reached completion in April 2006. [1] The station forms part of the Stratford City redevelopment. It is not yet in use. The opening of the station depends on the time it takes to develop good communications with the surrounding area. The opening is currently planned for February 2009[2]. Much of the surrounding land is currently a construction site as it lies just inside the eastern boundary of the Olympic site.[3]

The station is on High Speed 1 between St. Pancras International and Ebbsfleet International station. It is situated about 400 m from nearby Stratford Regional station, which is a major regional rail and tube transport hub. The new station has four platforms and is bisected by a ramp used by empty stock trains to get out of the station trench in order to reach the depot at Temple Mills.
[edit] Stopping of Eurostar services
Eurostar trains will stop at this station from February 2009[4].
There was an issue with planning permission as the station requires easy access from the regional Stratford station before the station can become operational. The link would be made via a planned extension of the Docklands Light Railway, which is expected to reach Stratford International by 2010.[citation needed] A previously proposed travelator link was scrapped.
[edit] Domestic services
The station will be used for domestic high-speed services to be operated by Southeastern. During the 2012 Summer Olympics it will serve Stratford's Olympic Park. In particular, the Olympic Javelin trains will take passengers from St. Pancras in central London and from Ebbsfleet International to the Olympic facilities around Stratford International station.
